ARTHUR'S NEWS

BLUEGRASS IN THE GARDEN Starts Thursday March 25th 6pm-8pm!

Join us for the first Bluegrass Jam of the new year! Bring your instruments, a chair and a friend to pick a little tune and get your fingers warmed up after this cold, cold winter!

For those of you that haven't been to Bluegrass In The Garden, we sit and pick in Mrs. Arthur's hidden garden behind the store under the largest Oak tree in Indiana.  The sound of bluegrass floats on the spring breezes while the sweet scent of hundreds of flowers lightly kiss your nose...(pretty nice, huh?) Everyone is welcome to join in or just sit in the shade and enjoy the music. Well behaved dogs are also welcome! Woof! If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll have the jam in the store right on the sales floor. Rain does not stop the music!

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK! For the last two years, Bluegrass In The Garden has been held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 6pm-9pm.   Thursday evenings are becoming more of a challenge for our favorite pickers, so we would like to change the day and time. So...What do you think of Bluegrass In The Garden being held every other Saturday from 1pm-4pm? Email, call or stop in to give us your feedback! Thank you!!

Just A Note...

3/6/2010: Our customers know they can count on us to have instruments that most would consider "out there" or odd. Today, our teacher Paul Ware was asked to give an old-fashioned "spoons" lesson, and we took a Harmonium in on trade (tabletop accordion or reed organ-like instrument invented in France in 1842 and popularized in Europe and Northern India during the late 19th Century). From day to day, we never know what's going to walk through the door....

Need to know how to play that instrument you got for Christmas?

Arthur's offers lessons on Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Mandolin, Drums, Harmonica, Piano, and much more.

$20 per 1/2 Hour Private Lesson, Once Per Week.

Check out our LESSONS page to pick your new teacher!

Leola Arthur 1914-2009

Leola and Amos Arthur founded Arthur's Music Store in 1952. Leola was an avid gardener and when not at her desk, enjoyed working in her greenhouse and garden. She was a member of the American Guild of Music (Mandolin), the Daylily Society and several local plant and flower organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Lilly Hospice, Yellow Rose Unit, 1815 N. Capitol, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com

Archie Gibson 1923-2009

Archie Gibson was the lead repair technician, salesman, and Mr. Arthur's right-hand-man for over 20 years. He was a true staple at Arthur's Music Store and a mentor to many.  Archie served in the United States Army in WWII, where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star.  He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be shared at: www.legacyfuneralcenter.com

Arthur's Music Store

Arthur's Music Store has been at the same location in Historic Fountain Square since 1952, and is still owned and operated by the Arthur family. Although a lot has changed in the last 50 years, the level of personal service that Mr. Arthur instilled in his family and employees is continuing to provide a high degree of customer satisfaction today.

While mainly a fretted instrument store (stocking everything musical except pianos, organs and recording gear), Arthur's Music is known for having a wide variety of products from guitars to hammered dulcimers. We are one of the few stores in the Midwest where you can find pedal steels, accordions and Irish tenor banjos along side guitars, basses, drums, amps and P.A.'s. We buy, sell and trade. Our used stock moves quickly, so just ask and we will keep your requests on file and let you know when something that fits your needs becomes available.

Arthur's Music offers on site luthier & repair service and stocks parts and accessories for do-it-yourself repairs and customizing. Our staff of instructors offer private music lessons here in the store for most instruments as well as voice and theory.

We are pretty easy goin' here, and don't work on commission, so there are never high pressure sales. We want you to be happy, come back often and keep playing the music you love!

"The story of Arthur's Music, like the story of rock and roll, is about one generation passing down to the next..."
-- Family Act, by Mike Redmond for Indianapolis Monthly Magazine
